WordPress can be used to build very nice looking web sites that have everything a small business or private enterprise needs to get the word out about products and services.

Of course, using WordPress effectively for such purposes depends greatly on choosing a good theme and getting familiar with it.

There are a good number of high quality themes out there, so be sure to check around and find one that meets your needs before diving in.

My own theme, The Privateer, is what I use for this site, my other sites, various friends sites, and various clients sites as it has been built from the ground up to have the tools that I normally make use of:

  • Flexible layouts
  • Extra template areas
  • Multi column displays
  • Simple ad insertion
  • Google AdSense
  • e-Junkie
  • XML Site Map
  • Skin Functionality

WordPress Plugins can be used to add extra functionality to WordPress.

For example, there are plugins available to display quotes, manage ads, setup SEO, run newsletters, sell products, and more.

I build plugins as needed, modify plugins to suit my needs ( and those of my clients ), and use both free and paid plugins that do what I want to do with my web site well.
