Page Default Styling

In The Privateer Theme, there are three primary types of things displayed within the main content area of your WordPress site:

  1. Page Level Objects
  2. Post Level Objects
  3. Navigational Menus

All of the above have default styles which are set via the "Privateer" » "Default Page" Menu Panel.

Additionally, each type of page can override the default styles set via their own styling menus…so if you want a particular type of page ( such as your home page or search page ) to have a non-default display for something, you can modify the styling for just that type of page.

If you are not sure as to what the difference is between a Post and a Page is within The Privateer Theme, please be sure to check out Posts vs Pages for a full explanation.

Page Level Objects

Page Objects, within The Privateer Theme, have a container, seven main sections, and two subsections.

Each section can have different default styles set and have those default overridden specifically on particular page types.

Go to the "Privateer" » "Default Page" » "Page Styling" to view the available options for setting up site wide defaults for the page level objects.

The Default Main Content Styling Panel

The Default Main Content Styling Panel

With this panel, you can style the page wrapper, which contains all page objects, the seven primary page level objects, and the two secondary page level objects.

There are three main types of objects for styling purposes:

  1. Those which are simply containers
    • The Page Wrapper
    • The Post List Area
  2. Those which do not have special tags specified
    • The Kicker
    • The Byline
    • The Top Content Area
    • The Post List
    • The Bottom Content Area
    • The Footer
  3. Those which do have special tags specified
    • The Title
    • The Subtitle
    • The Summary

Items which are simply containers have only one styling option each, which styles the container.

Items without a special tag specified have three options each for styling purposes:

  1. The Item Style
    • This styles the DIV which holds that sections content.
  2. The Item Link Style
    • This styles links within that sections content area
  3. The Item Link Hover Style
    • This styles the hover state of links within that sections content area

Additionally, those items which are placed within specified tags have an extra style:

  1. The Item Text Style
    • This styles the text within the tag as simply styling the div which contains it will not override the normal tag styles.

Post Level Objects

Post Level Objects are similar to Page level objects, but they are used to draw the actual WordPress posts and pages that you create via the "Posts" menu and "Pages" menu in the admin panel.

Post Level objects are displayed within the page objects Post List Area and come in two types:

  1. Those without special tags around them
    • The Post Kicker
    • The Post Byline
    • The Post Body Copy
    • The Post Footer
  2. Those with special tags around them
    • The Title
    • The Subtitle
    • The Summary

Like the page level objects, post level objects without special tags such as h1 or h2 around them have three options each:

  1. One to style the container and normal text
  2. One to style links within that section
  3. One to style the hover state of links within that section.

And post level objects with special tags around them have a fourth option, just like their page counterparts:

  1. An option to style the text within the tag

Nav Bar Styling

The Navigation Bar styling is a bit different as different types of navigation bars have different pieces.

There are five primary navigation bar types, two of which have multiple possible display types. All of them can be styled individually to one extent or another.

  1. The Paged Navigation Bar
  2. The Comments Page Navigation Bar
  3. The Single Post Nav Bar
  4. The Ancestor Navigation Bar
  5. The Child Navigation Bar

The Paged Navigation Bar

  • On Home, Search, and Archive template pages, this navigates between different pages, provided there are enough posts listed to require multiple pages.
  • On Single (Post) and Page template pages, this bar navigates between pages forced via use of the <!–nextpage–> tag inside of the post or page being displayed.
  • This bar can be either a text bar or a numeric bar.

As there are three possible places to put this navigation bar, there are three options for styling their containers…so you can have a different look in each area if that is what you would like.

  1. Top Nav Style
    • This is for styling the Page Nav Bar when it is set to be shown in the top area.
  2. Middle Nav Style
    • This is for styling the Page Nav Bar when it is set to be shown in the middle area
  3. Bottom Nav Style
    • This is for styling the Page Nav Bar when it is set to be shown in the bottom area

Note that these three containers are used whether the paged navigation bar is set to display as text or as a numeric bar.

Beyond the containers, each type of navigation bar is styled individually.

  3. Middle Link Styling

    • The middle link only shows if it is not disabled and the viewer is not on one of the home template pages.
  4. Right Link Styling
