Site Layout Mini Guide

The layout of your website, when using The Privateer Theme for WordPress, can be configured in different ways:

To go to the Layout configurations:

  1. Log into your wordpress site
  2. Select the Privateer Menu
  3. Select the General Display Menu
  4. Select the Page Framing option under the "Overall Settings" section

Fixed Width Layouts

If you want your site to have a static width, without regard to the display size that your readers are using, you can do that by:

Set the "Layout Width and type" option to a pixel value
Enter the number of pixels followed by px. For example:
780px would make your pages 780 pixels wide
1000px would make your pages 1000 pixels wide

Fluid Width Layouts

If you want your site to expand to fill the users display, you can set up a fluid width display by:

Set the "Layout Width and type" option to a percent value
Enter the percentage of the viewport you want your pages to take up with a % sign after it. For example:
100% would fill the entire browser window
98% would leave 1% of the viewing area on either side of your pages
(optional) Set the "Layout Min Width" to the smallest number of pixels you want your pages displayed at.
This helps to prevent having them crunched for people with smaller screens.
(optional) Set the "Layout Max Width" to the larges size you want your site displayed at.
This can help prevent your site from looking too sparse to people with very large screen resolutions.

Styling the Layout

The "Layout Container Style" option can be used to style the outer container for your site to setup things such as borders, backgrounds, etc.

This uses standard Cascading Style Sheet entries.

Notes:

Do not set margins here.
For left and right margins, use a fluid layout instead.
For top and bottom margins, set a padding on the body itself via the
"Privateer" » "General Display" » "Text and Links" » "Body Style" option.
Do not set left and right padding with this option.
Instead, set the "Layout Container Padding Left/Right" option immediately below it.
