Template Configuration

In The Privateer, the following templates have their own configuration menus which can be used to setup how the template will display its’ content:

  • home.php
    • The Home Page template.
    • This is the default home page type for WordPress
    • Modifiable via the Privateer » Home Page menu
  • single.php
    • The Single Post Template
    • This displays individual WordPress post objects when they are requested by users.
    • Modifiable via the Privateer » Single Posts menu
  • page.php
    • The Single Page Template
    • This displays individual WordPress page objects when they are requested by users.
    • Modifiable via the Privateer » Single Pages menu
  • search.php
    • The Search Results Template
    • This displays the results when users search your site.
    • Modifiable via the Privateer » Search Results menu
  • 404.php
    • The 404 Not Found Template
    • This displays a message when the item requested by a user does not exist.
    • Modifiable via the Privateer » 404 Not Found menu
  • archive.php
    • The Archive Template
    • This is only used by The Privateer to set special defaults for all four archive types.
    • Actual configuration of the archives is done via each individual archive types config menu.
    • Modified via the Privateer » Archives menu
  • author.php
    • The Author Archives Template
    • This displays lists of items published by a particular author.
    • Processing for author archives is actually handled by archive.php within The Privateer.
    • Modified via the Privateer » Arch: Author menu
  • category.php
    • The Category Archives Template
    • This displays lists of items in a particular category
    • Processing for category archives is actually handled by archive.php within the Privateer.
    • Modified via the Privateer » Arch: Category menu
  • date.php
    • The Date Archives Template
    • This displays lists of items published within particular time periods
    • Processing for date archives is actually handled by archive.php within the Privateer.
    • Modified via the Privateer » Arch: Date menu
  • tag.php
    • The Tag Archive Template
    • This displays lists of posts which have been given a particular tag
    • Processing for tag archives is actually handled by archive.php within the Privateer.
    • Modified via the Privateer » Arch: Tag menu

Template Configuration Menus

Configuration for each template is done via a panel, which looks much the same for each of them.

As shown, the following sub-menus are available on the template editor panel:

  1. Page Display
    • This sub-menu is used to enter values for the various page level items, decide which items should be shown for the template in question, and specify how posts are to be drawn.

  2. Page Styling
    • This sub-menu is used to style the page level items for the template in question. Any settings here will override the defaults that have been setup in the Privateer » Default Page menu.
    • See Page Default Styling for information on the options which can be set via this sub-menu.
  3. S.E.O.
    • This sub-menu is used to setup search engine optimization particular to the template in question such as whether it should be indexed, followed, use yahoo directory and/or the open directory project, etc.

  4. Page Nav
    • This sub-menu is used to configure the navigation bars which can appear on the template in question.
    • Different templates have different possible navigation bars which can be displayed.
    • Full details on configuring the navigation bars can be found on the Page Navigation Bar configuration page.
  5. Nav Styling
    • This sub-menu is used to override the default navigation bar styling set in the Privateer » Default Page menu.

  6. Post Display
    • This sub-menu is used to configure the various sections of posts displayed on a particular template as well as to decide which pieces should or should not be drawn.

  7. Post Styling
    • This sub-menu is used to override default styles for post level items setup via the Privateer » Default Page (or Archives) menu.
    • See Page Default Styling for information on the the options available via this panel.
  8. Custom Displays
    • This sub-menu is to review, activate, and configure any custom displays that are currently installed.
    • Custom displays are similar to plugins, but are used to completely alter the look of a particular template ( or a specific WordPress post or page object ) without having to modify your templates.
