I recommend having a terms of service page, especially if you want someplace to put legal notices for potential customers or viewers.

If you want to profess lack of legal liability over possible happening, this is the place for it.

In addition to displaying legal notices, a terms of service page is also said to make ranking organically with search engines easier.

For sites which sell items directly or direct traffic to online stores, it is a good idea to have a shipping information page posted.

Such a page can be used to provide potential customers with detailed information on your shipping policies and also be used as a frequently answered questions document where shipping is related.

Some things you might place on a shipping information page:

What methods you use to ship

USPS, UPS, etc.

What days you ship on

Perhaps you only ship items out on wednesdays…

How you package your goods

Whether you combine shipping on multiple items or not

Whether you ship worldwide or not

And if so, if there are any special requirements

Whether you offer shipping insurance or not

Frequently asked questions about shipping

Hopefully along with the answers to them…

Such a page can give potential customer a sense of trust as well as lower the amount of questions that come in about how you ship.

If you sell via bonanzle, you can put a link to such a page on your more information section.

To create a shipping information page, just create a new page in wordpress, name it something like "Shipping Information" and enter your shipping information.

I recommend turning comments on for it so that people can ask questions right on your shipping page.

If you are worried about a menu getting too long, you might make your "About Us" page a parent to your shipping information page.

When creating a website, it is a good idea to create a privacy policy page.

A privacy policy page should tell users what kind of data (if any) your site collects and how you use collected data.

According to many knowledgeable internet marketers, it is easier to gain organic search ranking in the big search engines if you have a privacy policy than if you do not have one.

For a site designed to send search traffic on to a store, I recommend creating a privacy policy, even if it only tells users that you do not track or keep information about them…though you really should use something akin to google analytics to track traffic…and you can make note of that on your privacy policy page.

Creating a Privacy Policy Page

Log into WordPress

Select "Pages" → "Add New"

For title, enter Privacy Policy

Enter your privacy policy information into the body

Specify any other options you want

Save your new page

See my Privacy Policy for an example.

Setting up a contact page is something that should be done for any site which wants to make ranking organically with search engines as easy as possible.

While you can provide any kind of contact information you want, I recommend creating an email form for the general populace so as to lower the amount of spam that you receive over time.

A contact form allows people to contact you without providing them your email address or placing it somewhere for spammer robots to pick up and add to email lists.

If you want to place an email address, phone number, or other such item up for people, I recommend creating an image for that purpose as few spam robots analyze the contents of images to look for phone numbers or email addresses.

Setting up a contact form

The simplest way I have come across for setting up a contact form on a wordpress site is to grab the following two plugins:

Contact Form 7

Really Simple Captcha

For help getting them installed, see setting up new plugins in WordPress.

Once you have them installed and activated:

Create a contact form with Contact Form 7

To do this:

Log into WordPress

Select "Tools" → "Contact Form 7"

Select "Add New" at the top

Click "Untitled" and give the form a name

Select "Generate Tag" → "Captcha"

Select the options you want for the Captcha

Copy the code for the image [captchac something]

On the left, click on the line above <p>[submit "Send"]</p>

Type in <p>

Paste the copied image code in

Type in <br /> and press enter to move the cursor to a new line

Type in "Type the characters in the above image into the below box<br />"

Press enter to move the cursor to the next line

On the right, copy the code for the input field [captchar something]

Place your cursor under the "Type the characters…" line

Paste the copied input field

Type </p> after the pasted input field code.

Below, enter the email address you want the form to send mail to

Select "Save" at the very bottom.

Copy the code for the form

The code is near the top and should look like [contact-form 404 "Not Found"]

Create a "Contact Us" Page

To do this:

Select "Pages" → "Add New"

Enter "Contact Us" for the title

In the body, paste the contact form code and enter anything else you want to appear there.

To see an example of a contact form created this way, see my contact us page.

If you want to make ranking your site organically with search engines as easy as possible, you should be sure to include an "About us" page on your site.

By default, WordPress creates one automatically. However, you really should edit it to include information about your site and store.

What to put on your About Us page

Page Name: About Us or About

When creating your About Us page, it can be helpful to place up information about any or all of the following:

The owner(s) of the business or enterprise

Information about the business or enterprise

Information about your store

Information about your site

It doesn’t have to be anything spectacular, but you really should include a few paragraphs on this page.

Placing information about the owners, awards, etc. can help people attribute more trust to your store and site.
