Template Overrides

In the Privateer theme, you can not only use the normal wordpress method for providing special templates to use in your posts and pages, you can use template overrides to set up non-default page layouts with built in options so that you don’t have to be able to edit php to get interesting looks.

How most themes do template overrides

For most themes, to get custom layouts you need to copy an existing template, save it with a specially structured name, and then edit the template ( using php and html ) to get the look that you desire.

How the Privateer Theme does template overrides

With the Privateer, you can still do things that way if you are so inclined, but you can also choose to go into the template control panel, select a template override, set up any placement options and styles as wanted, and then activate the template to start making use of it.

Random looks for multi post pages

For multi-post templates such as the home template and search template, you can choose to activate multiple templates to have one displayed at random each time a user visits the page.

Custom options for individual posts and pages

For single-post templates such as the single template and the page template, you can choose which of the available active templates you want to use from within the post or page editor and then set any post/page specific options for the template.

Additional Template Overrides

As owners of the Privateer Theme ask for new template overrides ( or as I need them for client projects ) I will be creating new template overrides in my spare time.

Of course, you can always use an existing template override to try your hand at creating ones for yourself or inquire about having me create them for you on a project basis.
